LSM 980 & Airyscan2
The Zeiss LSM980 system incarnates the newest generation of laser scanning confocal microscopes. Mounted on an inverted microscope for full flexibility and compatibility with live cell imaging (boasting Definite Focus 2 for focal stabilization and cell incubation chamber), it is also amenable for standard fixed sample imaging.
The system incorporates the 34-channel Quasar detector common to other Zeiss LSMs in the facility, ideal for spectral unmixing. Moreover, the system features the Airyscan2 detector. This is an array of 32 single GaAsP detectors arranged as a rosette, which allows for super-resolution performance (down to 140 nm), but which can alternatively be used as a slit scanning confocal, increasing scanning speed by 8x.
Additionally, the system incorporates a Colibri7 LED light source and an Axiocam 705 mono camera for widefield imaging.
