LSM 880 with Airyscan
The Zeiss LSM 880 Airyscan is an inverted confocal microscope designed for high-resolution imaging of fixed and live-cell samples. It features a motorized AxioObserver Z1 stand with Definite Focus 1 for focus stabilization, a motorized XY stage for precise positioning and tiling, and a fully enclosed chamber for environmental control during time-lapse experiments.
The system supports conventional confocal imaging with a cooled GaAsP PMT spectral detector that captures 34-channel fluorescence emission spectra, enabling pixel-by-pixel identification of fluorophores by their emission fingerprints. This is especially useful for resolving overlapping signals, analyzing spectral shifts, and quantifying probes that change emission upon target binding.
For super-resolution imaging, the 32-channel Airyscan detector improves spatial resolution and signal-to-noise ratio.
