How Roger Tsien changed your life
How Roger Tsien changed your life
9th of November 2016, 14:00 - 17:00 • Faculty club, The Panum Institute
Everybody is welcome. Registration is appreciated for organization purposes. You can also submit and image or quote about how the development of GFP changed your life.
The discovery of fluorescent proteins revolutionized research in biology. Being genetically encoded, they allow for direct observation of proteins in live samples.
Roger Tsien was the co-recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2008 for the discovery and development of GFP, the green fluorescent protein. He created a full palette of fluorescent proteins (Shaner et. al., Nat. Biotech, 2004), but also Calcium sensors (Miyawaki et. al., Nature, 1997), FRET sensors...
After his passing on August 24th, Nicole Schmitt raised the idea of showing how his work has enabled ours. In a mini-symposium, on the 9th of November, a few researchers will tell us how the discovery and development of GFP has made their research possible.
